Smule: Sing & Record Karaoke
This app is for recording audio/video karaoke with other users but there is no option for a private profile. Anyone can follow your child if they are using this app. Any stranger can comment on their video recordings or direct message them, starting a conversation that can quickly become dangerous. We have seen users with pornographic photos as their profile pictures following the profiles of minors and commenting on their video recordings. There are an enormous amount of users with no profile picture or info on their profile page following the accounts of minors and commenting on their recordings as well. This app has high anonymity, low privacy, connections with strangers, and direct messaging. With high risks of bullying, sexting, meeting strangers, and adult content, this app should not be used by minors.
While singing Karaoke can seem very innocent, connecting your child with strangers who can see recordings of them and start a conversation is dangerous. Talk to your child about why they like this app. If they like to sing karaoke, there are plenty of other, safer options. If they like the fact that this app connects them with strangers, it is important that you sit and talk with them about why this is so dangerous. Please refer to our Parent’s Guides section for advice on how to approach discussing these risks with your child.
