Bottom Line

Tumblr is a very popular blog-based social network with integrated private messaging. This app has historically had a large problem with pornography. A simple search can lead your child to graphic adult content and profiles of users willing to exchange pornagraphic material. The ability of users to create new accounts and send messages privately creates increased risks of meeting strangers, bullying and sexting. No minor should use this app.

Ask your child what they enjoy about this app. You may find there are safer apps with the same uses. Use our Parent's Guides section for tips on how to talk to your child about the risks involved with using Tumblr.
