Viber is an app for creating group chats with your contacts or joining ongoing public group chats created by other users. All messaging apps have risks of sexting and bullying but there is also the possibility of meeting strangers and finding adult content in the public chats on Viber. Because of this, Vibers age rating is a higher than other group chat apps. No minor should have this app.
Viber is a very popular app, so it may be difficult for you child to understand why they are not allowed to have this app. This app is used primarily for creating group chats where children can meet strangers. They can easily join a public chat and meet strangers this way. Try talking to your child about the risks of meeting strangers, bullying, sexting, and adult content. If your child enjoys group chatting with friends and you are OK with this, there are plenty other options, including creating group chats on their device with friends in their contacts list.
